What you came here wondering

Concern 01

Is my pigmentation melasma — or something else?

Melasma is hormonal, recurrent, and notoriously stubborn. Sun spots, post-inflammatory marks, and freckles look similar but respond very differently. Treating the wrong type can make things worse.

Concern 02

Is pico laser safe for Asian skin?

Pico laser is the current standard of care for Asian skin pigmentation, but only when calibrated correctly. The wrong settings on Asian skin can trigger paradoxical darkening rather than lightening.

Concern 03

Why does my pigmentation keep coming back?

Most recurrence is one of two things: insufficient sun protection, or treating the visible pigment without addressing the underlying trigger. Lasting results need both lasers and lifestyle.

Why Vincere

Why Vincere for pigmentation

Pigmentation treatment for Asian skin requires restraint and precision. Aggressive settings can backfire — here’s what we bring to the table.

01
AMI
Faculty trainer & mentor

Dr Vincent trains other physicians in injection and energy device technique as faculty of the Allergan Medical Institute. The same precision applies to laser pigment work.

02
Asian
Skin-type expertise

Asian skin (Fitzpatrick III–V) requires gentler settings and longer treatment plans than Western protocols. We calibrate for your skin — not someone else’s.

03
15+ yrs
Clinical experience

Dr Vincent brings over 15 years of clinical experience to pigmentation cases that range from straightforward sun spots to stubborn, recurrent melasma. Most have a solution — it’s about finding the right one.

Common questions

There is no single “best” pigmentation treatment in Singapore — the right one depends on the type of pigment you have. For most cases of melasma, sun spots, and dark spots in Asian skin, pico laser is a well-established approach — it targets pigment particles with extremely short pulses, breaking them down without damaging surrounding skin. At Vincere, Dr Vincent combines pico laser with adjunct skin quality treatments to support recovery and prevent recurrence. The right approach is determined at consultation.
Most patients see early brightening after 1–2 sessions. Significant improvement in melasma or established pigment usually requires 4–6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Maintenance sessions every 2–3 months may be recommended once initial clearance is achieved — especially for melasma, which is prone to recurrence.
Most patients describe pico laser as a series of warm pinpricks — tolerable without numbing for many people. We apply topical numbing for sensitive areas or longer treatments. Discomfort is brief and does not extend beyond the session itself.
Downtime is minimal — most patients have mild redness for a few hours, occasionally pinpoint darkening of treated spots that flakes off naturally over 5–10 days. You can return to work and normal activities the same day. Strict sun protection is essential during recovery.
Melasma is fundamentally a hormonal condition with strong genetic and UV components. Even after successful clearance, recurrence is common if the underlying triggers — sun exposure, hormones, heat — are not managed. A long-term plan combines laser treatment with daily SPF, oral supportive therapy in some cases, and maintenance sessions every 2–3 months.
It can — if the wrong device, the wrong settings, or the wrong diagnosis is applied. Asian skin is particularly prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation when over-treated. This is why proper assessment matters more than which device a clinic uses. At Vincere, we err on the side of restraint, especially in the first few sessions.
